The book of Proverbs is a collection of various books of aphorisms, general truths.
In the book, two different kinds of women are giving invitations: One is Lady Wisdom, a noble lady presenting wisdom, justice, and righteousness. The other is Dame Folly, enticing the simple.
The difference in the nature of these invitations sets up the conflict that is pervasive throughout the entire book of Proverbs—the conflict between wisdom and folly as they relate to every imaginable detail of life.
