Early 2010 a burden for the northern suburbs of Johannesburg climaxed in the hearts of Tyrell Haag and Michael Rogers. At the time Michael was very involved with his home church, Antioch Bible Church, and Tyrell was the Associate Pastor at Constantia Park Baptist Church. These two friends met regularly to discuss these things and after much prayer they decided that it would be a privilege to join together in planting a church in the spiritually dark area of northern Johannesburg.

Three churches in all were approached to be planting churches: Constantia Park Baptist Church, Antioch Bible Church and Brackenhurst Baptist Church. Brackenhurst Baptist Church took the main responsibility for being the mother planting church.

Heritage Baptist held its first service on the 2nd of January 2011, after just over one year the church constituted on the 5th of February 2012. After meeting for a couple of years at the Craighall Park Scouts Hall, the Lord provided funds for the church to purchase the church building in Melville in 2014.

In 2018 a Bible study in Potchesfroom grew into a church plant led by two students at North West university: Masauso Phiri and Timothy Olsen. These men asked Heritage to be the overseeing church and Heritage had its first church plant. The church was constituted in March 2022, and called its first Pastor, Riaan Strydom, later that year.

Post-Covid, Heritage outgrew the Melville property and by God's grace in July of 2024 purchased a piece of land in Craighall Park (a stone's throw away from the Scout Hall) where the church seeks to build a suitable church property.
