Jesus Christ alone is the Head of His Church (Col.1:18). He has ordained that individual Churches be governed by Himself through officers whom He appoints, who have been given by His Spirit gifts and graces needed to accomplish their work. It is our understanding that Christ has ordained that local churches be ruled by elders and served by deacons. Beside the offices of elder and deacon the Scriptures acknowledge no other offices which continue in the church today (Phil. 1:1; 1 Tim. 3:1-13).
